Invocation to Patanjali

yogena cittasya padena vācām
malam śarīrasya ca vaidyakena
yopākarottam pravaram munīnām
patañjalim prāñjalirānato'smi
ābāhu purusākāram
śankhacakrāsi dhārinam
sahasra śirasam śvetam
pranamami patanjalim

Let us prostrate ourselves before the noblest of sages, Patanjali,
who brought serenity of mind through his work on yoga,
clarity of speech through his work on grammar
and the purity of the body through his work on medicine.
Let us bow down to Patanjali, an incarnation of Adisesa,
whose upper part of the body has a human shape,
whose arms hold a conch and a disc,
which is crowned by the thousand-headed cobra.
